What is VelaSmooth and how does it work?

VelaSmooth is a revolutionary treatment for cellulite, approved by the FDA in 2005. It is estimated that 80% of women over the age of twenty have cellulite. VelaSmooth combines radiofrequency waves (RF), a laser and a mechanical massage. The RF energy and laser increase the metabolism in the fat cells leading to shrinking of the cells and the actual fat chamber. The massage and vacuum suction increases local circulation, oxygen availability and drainage of the trapped fluids and lymphatic system. It also stretches the fibrous bands that dimple the skin. This leads to re-contouring and a smoother appearance of the skin surface. This is the safest most effective technology available for treatment of Cellulite. Most patients achieve reduction in the circumferential measurement around the treated area. This treatment can be combined with Mesotherapy to maximize results.

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite is the uneven skin surface, lumps, bulges and dimpling which result from the uneven tension within the hypodermal layer of fat. This occurs primarily in women, but sometimes in men as well.

How many treatments are needed?

The average is 10-16 sessions. The treatment is performed twice weekly. You will be able to notice changes after about 5 treatments. Monthly treatments are needed thereafter to maintain results.

Which parts of the body can be treated?

Treatments can be done to the thighs, buttocks, hips and abdomen, as well as to the lyppodystrophic areas known as "love handles" and "saddlebags". Men seem to respond to treatments for contouring of the torso and abdominal area.

Does it hurt?

The treatment feels like a warm deep tissue massage. Some patients have low tolerance to aggressive skin manipulation and may report a pinching sensation. If you experience discomfort, we can adjust the settings to suit your level of tolerance.

How long will the procedure take?

The time varies depending on the surface area of the treatment zone. It usually takes 30-60 minutes per session.

Does it leave a mark?

Would it affect my skin? No. This is a non-invasive treatment with no down time. The treated area may appear pink and feel warm for a short period of time after the treatment.
