Radiance basically consists of tiny micro spheres of a synthetic material called calcium hydroxylapatite (30%) that is combined with a common hydrogel (70%) used in a vast array of products. Radiance is a non-surgical treatment, performed as a simple injection during an office visit to your physician.
How does it work?
A numbing, or anesthetic agent may be applied to the designated area, after which Radiance will be gently injected using a very fine needle. This will build up the tissues of the face, reducing folds and creases and restoring fullness. It does not paralyze or act on the face's muscles.
What areas can it treat?
Radiance is the ideal treatment for areas of the face, such as the lines between the nose and mouth, between the eyebrows and on the upper lip. It's also used to treat the so-called "smile lines" and "frown lines" found around the eyes and lips. Blemishes may also be removed, as well as depressions caused by acne scars. It can also make thinning lips appear fuller, as well as shallow cheeks.
When can I see results and how long do they last?
You can see results immediately and they generally last for up to three or more years.
Is the procedure painful? Enhancement with Radiance is relatively painless, and any minor swelling from the injection typically disappears within 24 hours. A mild localized anesthetic is normally used to minimize or usually eliminate the pain associated with this type of treatment.
Is there a difference between Radiance and Collagen?
One primary difference between the two is the length of time that the injected substance is retained by the body. Collagen has a shorter life-span of about 6 months, whereas Radiance will last up to 3 years.
Can I go to work the next day?
There is minor inflammation or swelling from the treatment as a result of the expansion of facial tissue. This is normally resolved well within 24 hours, but has been reported to last as long as 48 hours for some patients. Most patients resume normal activities only a few hours after receiving treatment. Application of ice intermittently for a short period after the treatment will help reduce any swelling.
