Laser Hair Removal

What is Laser Hair Removal? The key to successful hair removal is destroying the entire follicle, down to the bulb and its germinating centers, while preserving surrounding healthy tissue. Destroying the hair follicle during its active growth cycle is another key to producing long-term hair reduction. Consequently, multiple treatments scheduled several weeks or months apart are typically required to achieve optimal results.
How does it work? Lasers and IPL light sources gently remove unwanted hair based on the principle of selective photothermolyisis. This refers to the process whereby light energy causes thermal injury to the hair follicle. The laser is a light energy that gets absorbed by the hair and melanin in the skin and then transformed into heat, resulting in destruction of the hair follicle. In our practice, we use a technology that combines laser with radiofrequency waves (RF) which would destroy the hair follicle permanently. This combination allows the fastest, safest and most effective hair removal. The RF energy allows us to use much less laser energy to achieve the same goal with much less potential for complications. The IPL System, with its unique combination of laser parameters, penetrates tissue to destroy the base of the hair follicle and stunt hair re-growth. At the same time, the  system's aggressive cooling provided by the Cryo air ( Chilled forced air) minimizes potential collateral epidermal damage caused by light absorption by melanin in the epidermis.
Are the results permanent? Yes. Hair reduction occurs on up to 93% of the hair.
Is the procedure painful? No.  With the advanced cooling system, the treatment is hardly felt and is virtually painless.
What is unique about your laser hair removal? Many things. All treatments are performed at a top notch facility and performed by a board certified physician, who is a pioneer in these laser treatments. Also, it can work on all skin types and colors of hair from blonde to black. What is exciting is that it does not only remove hair, but also rejuvenates your skin. It leaves you with flawless skin, as it also gets rid of  bumps from frequent plucking and shaving.
How long will it take to get the full results? It takes multiple treatments to get the best results, as it depends on the size of the area and hair density.  We offer competitive packages to suit your needs.

How many treatments are needed? Normal hair growth has three cycles. The most effective hair removal is during the growth cycle.  This requires that the patient return for additional treatments to ensure total hair loss. Most patients need 4 to 8 treatments. More hair loss and slower growth will be noted after each treatment. Treatment is typically done every 3-4 weeks.

Does the color of the hair or the skin matter? All hair colors and all skin types (I-VI), including tanned skin, can be treated.

Does it hurt? There is some discomfort associated with the treatment. We apply local anesthetic cream to the skin and use a cooling device (chilled air) to increase comfort. Some body areas are more sensitive than others. Everyone also has a different pain tolerance. There might be residual sensation left after using the local anesthetic.  We use chilled air to minimize discomfort during treatment and to allow treatment of large areas over less time.

Will the laser take away all the hair and will the hair grow back? Yes, after completing all the necessary treatments, which will be determined by the physician. More hair loss and slower growth will be noted after each treatment. Some scattered hair re-growth may be noted some years after the treatment (usually less than 20%).

How long will the procedure take? This depends on the treated area. Not counting the numbing time, which is about 10 to 20 minutes, the average time of the actual treatment is about 10-15 minutes per area.

Can I get hair removed from any part of my body? Yes. Treatments are most commonly performed on the face, arms, legs & bikini lines for women and the chest, abdomen, back & beard area for men.

Does it leave a mark? Would it affect my skin? No, the treatment would not leave a mark. You might notice some redness following the treatment, but it will disappear quickly. This treatment involves little or no recovery time. No one would be able to tell that you had the treatment.

Do men get laser hair removal? Yes, many men request chest, abdomen, back & beard hair removal. Thanks to the new technology that we use, each treatment is done in about 20 minutes.

What is the cost? The cost can be variable depending on the thickness of the hair.  A free consultation will be offered where all the different options will be discussed.

How did the technology change in recent years? Over the past 10 to 20 years, laser hair removal has come a long way. In the past hair removal was painful, slow and only effective on fair-skinned subjects with very dark hair. The major side effects that were noted for those lasers were hypo-pigmentation. Recently, newer laser technologies are extremely precise and can be adjusted to remove hair without any effect on the surrounding skin. The technology that we use is the newer Diode Laser, combined with RF (Comet). This is the fastest, most effective treatment for unwanted hair currently available.  It treats all skin types and removes more than 95% of unwanted hair.

What about side effects? Any side effects are very rare in the hands of an experienced physician like Dr Mohamed. They can include rare redness, which would last for only a few minutes.
Can it be used anywhere? Yes virtually anywhere; from the upper lip, full face, chest , abdomen, shoulders and bikini lines, as well as the legs.
