Introduction:
When we age, there are 3-dimentional changes in our face and body which occur throughout the multiple layers of our skin. Over time, there is a loss of; collagen and elastin (responsible for plumpness and elasticity of the skin), the subcutaneous tissue of collagen and fat, muscle laxity and atrophy ( causes sagging and droopiness of cheeks, eye lid areas and deep wrinkles, as well as bone loss ( loss of bone mass causes lack of support to all layers mentioned above) . Till now, there was no ideal solution to fix all these problems. Each plastic surgery, or dermatologic (skin) procedure, offers partial correction for some, but not for all of these elements, because no one ever thought about the re-contouring of all the layers of tissue loss associated with aging.
For example: Laser resurfacing and photo-rejuvenation addresses only the skin layer, while traditional plastic surgery face lifts address only muscle laxity, and pull the muscle to a much higher position, without volume replacement of the skin thickness. Loss of collagen and mass of subcutaneous fat, muscle thinness or loss and flattening of bone structure of the face can occur. Using fillers, on the other hand, like Restylane or Radiesse can partially correct some volume loss, but do not address the whole face as a unit, because they only target the wrinkle lines, without a comprehensive undertaking of all the facial structures as one unit. Also, fillers do not lift or tighten the skin, but merely fill areas, and create no significant lift whatsoever. |
